RALEIGH, N.C. — 09.23.2026 — ClearSens, Inc, an ultrasound technology company specializing in advanced transducer, imaging, and sensing solutions, is contributing to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Medics Autonomously Stopping Hemorrhage (MASH) program (https://www.darpa.mil/research/programs/medics-autonomously-stopping-hemorrhage) as a subcontractor to Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, LLC. The program seeks to advance technologies capable of autonomously detecting and treating internal bleeding in challenging environments where immediate access to conventional medical care may be limited.

Working alongside Teledyne Scientific, CMR Surgical, NC State University, and UNC Chapel Hill, ClearSens is contributing its expertise in ultrasound imaging and transducer technology and providing guidance toward the clinical translation and commercialization of technologies for automated imaging and image-guided intervention.

Internal hemorrhage is a major challenge in trauma care because rapid identification and treatment can require highly trained personnel and access to advanced medical infrastructure. The MASH program is exploring new approaches that could bring sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities closer to the point of injury.

ClearSens' role in the project includes contributing ultrasound expertise to support precise and reproducible robotic image acquisition and image-guided intervention. By controlling probe position, orientation, and tissue contact, robotic ultrasound has the potential to reduce operator-dependent variability and enable more standardized imaging. Real-time ultrasound information can also provide feedback for localization, robotic guidance, and subsequent therapeutic intervention.

“The next generation of medical robotic systems will need more than precise motion—they will need real-time, closed-loop imaging,” said Dr. Yalcin Yamaner, Co-Founder and CEO of ClearSens. “Ultrasound can provide that capability, allowing robotic systems to visualize anatomy, identify targets, and guide interventions in real time. As part of the Teledyne Scientific-led team, ClearSens is contributing its ultrasound expertise to support technologies for localization of internal bleeding and image-guided therapeutic intervention, while helping guide the pathway toward future clinical translation and commercialization.”

The technologies being developed also have potential applications beyond battlefield trauma, including civilian disaster response and urban search and rescue operations, where rapid access to medical imaging and intervention may be limited. More broadly, robotic ultrasound could help address healthcare challenges by improving imaging reproducibility, reducing the physical burden associated with manual scanning, and extending the effective capacity of a limited skilled ultrasound workforce.
